November 4 promises to be a day of civic animation throughout downtown Vancouver. After a whirlwind day of “community animations” by participants of TILT City, it will all come to a head at The Centre for Performing Arts where Buffy Saint-Marie, Teju Cole and Candy Chang will be joined by MC Mo Dhaliwal for We the City: An Evening at the Centre presented by SFU Public Square in partnership with Vancity. The evening will be devoted to exploring how arts and culture can transform public space and make life better for just about everyone.
The show will start well before anyone even enters the theatre. Outside the Centre, guests will be treated to a festival of food trucks, live music and terrific artistic performances.
“SFU Public Square is all about engaging the community and at this year’s signature performance we’ll be taking that to the next level,” says Shauna Sylvester, Executive Director of Public Square, the organization presenting the Summit in partnership with Vancity Credit Union. “Our aim this year is to get our audience thinking about the power of cities through an engaging and interactive celebration of the important role that arts and culture play in our day to day urban lives.”
After taking in the carnival atmosphere, the audience will be ushered into the Centre for a show that promises to engage and delight.
Dhaliwal says that the evening performance won’t be your typical speaker series and organizers are working hard to make it an engaging and fluid interactive experience.
“The opportunity to have some great creative minds to offer observations on the city and expand the audiences perspective is an experience people shouldn’t miss,” said Dhaliwal. “The event promises to be a fabulous sensory experience with a wide range of engagement activities, multimedia and music.”
