On our Stories page, we have put the call out for you to share a story, observation, or idea (big or small) on how you re-imagine downtown Vancouver. Here is how Katernia re-imagines downtown Vancouver:
I wholeheartedly believe we must invest in the future with a clean, renewable resource that has minimal impact.
I implore the City of Vancouver to invest in solar roadways, or possibly just parts of the Seawall/bike-lanes. But it is so applicable to us and other parts of BC that if Vancouver installed some as a Canadian pioneer, it would truly show Canada, and the world, how forward thinking we are. And it would maintain our green reputation.
I also believe that we should follow the example of some European cities and have a car free zone in the downtown core where transit is free ( 3-4 blocks perhaps around waterfront?) and possibly taxis.
With the recent plebiscite results my next idea may not be possible, but street cars or trams would also greatly increase transportation and possibly tourism in downtown Vancouver, especially one to various tourist destinations like Stanley Park!
I love this city and we need to look ahead so I am very glad you are taking the time to do so!
