On our Stories page, we have put the call out for you to share a story, observation, or idea (big or small) on how you re-imagine downtown Vancouver. In addition to the longer stories that we have been featuring, we have also received several shorter submissions. Here are some more of these “quick takes.”
I used to work in downtown Vancouver, and I wished constantly for better pedestrian flow. They’d keep cars and buses and bikes waiting at lights for a long time, and for major concerts on Granville, they may as well just close streets and save us all time. It feels dangerous to drive in.

I live in the West End and feel that downtown development needs to slow down. We don’t need condo towers on every corner. We need more parks and open spaces.
—Brian Elliot
14 years car-free (my choice) and couldn’t be happier. I also walk and take transit and as the last choice, cars share. I would love bike share in Vancouver.
—Ted Ratcliffe
Loved the Doxa movie and the hip hop show before! Do more outdoor movies!
—Oldies Varga
The pedestrian mall idea never seemed to improve the downtown experience maybe because there was nothing interesting to do at the street level. Aside from cafes and restaurants, and some shopping, there is not enough appealing activity such as at Granville Island. No street entertainment, no live theatre, no small art galleries. More park-type space is needed, more installations, and more neon art like in the sixties. Just a few thoughts.

Downtown for me is about being able to walk everywhere and having everything at my fingertips.
—Jay Froehlich
I live downtown, sold my car and get around by bike, transit, Car2Go, ZipCar, but mainly walking. I’m 73 years old.
